Lesotho is a land-locked country surrounded by South Africa. Their economy is also intrinsically tied to South Africa. Lesotho’s economy is mainly based on manufacturing, agriculture, livestock and mining. Almost 50 percent of the population generates an income from informal crop cultivation, animal husbandry and agriculture. The country does have some deposits of diamond and the biggest natural resource in the country is its water reserves.

Lesotho’s population is rapidly moving from a predominantly subsistence-oriented economy to a lower middle income???. A large reason for this is due to the counties diversified economy. The export of natural resources and manufacturing goods has created larger and more secure incomes to a significant portion of the population.
